Set well back from the street, sheltered by a grove of mature trees, this new Toronto residence rises from a sloping ravine with quiet drama. Its front façade—defined by deeply recessed windows set within GFRC frames and a twenty nine-foot long cantilevered canopy—establishes a bold yet refined architectural presence.
The exterior is clad in EIFS with a base of black brick that is gradually revealed as the house steps down the sloped site. Beneath the front canopy, randomly ribbed GFRC panels provide texture and rhythm to the front entry wall. At the rear, a covered outdoor room at the walk-out basement, next to an indoor swimming pool, looks out to the backyard and views of the ravine.
Above, a generous terrace runs the length of the kitchen and double height family room and wraps around the side of the house.
Inside, the ground floor centers on the great room that is open to an eat-in kitchen, a large dining room that can seat up to 30 people, and the primary bedroom suite. A sculptural stair winds through the house, descending to a multi-purpose media room separated from the indoor pool by a switchable glass wall, along with change rooms and gym, and ascending to five bedrooms and a dedicated office at the second floor.
