Forest Hill Village Residence
An ultra-traditional house in the heart of Forest Hill was redesigned and modernized to reflect the clients’ transition to a contemporary aesthetic from when they had the house originally built in the 1980’s. The interior was completely gutted and reorganized to provide a sequence of generous rooms for living and entertaining, incorporating the highest level of craftsmanship and attention to detail. An elegant material palette of hand rubbed dark bronze, stone, leather, custom walnut millwork and light oak flooring creates a dramatic yet warm and inviting living environment. The palette is complemented and enhanced by the selection of new furniture and dramatic light fixtures. The double height entry hall features a cantilevered stone stair, with a leather-wrapped bronze handrail, set against a wall of leather panels. On axis with the entry, sliding custom bronze screens create a permeable separation between the hall and the dining room beyond and can be fully retracted into the solid walls to extend the dining room for large gatherings. The double-sided fireplace between the dining room and family room incorporates light coloured Loire limestone and illuminated walnut panelled niches. At the family room, flush sliding panels obscure the flat screen TV when not in use. The dramatic living room fireplace is fabricated of large slabs of vein-cut travertine and bronze trim. A sense of understated luxury pervades the new design, made all the more remarkable by the transition from the traditional exterior which has been retained, to the contemporary interior. Interiors were designed in collaboration with William Fulghum Design Associates.
